Eagles come up short against Barnum, Deer River
"Coming off the 3-OT game the past Friday I think the guys were a little dead-legged. We battled Barnum tough in the first half slowing things down and grinding on defense. We felt good at half holding them to 28 and only trailing 28-20, but cold shooting and turnovers once again plagued us in the second half leading to too many easy buckets for Barnum and the final score. Little by little we are seeing improvement. The guys know we need to bring an entire game and are working on cutting down on the turnovers." Said Coach Tim Vagle.
Chris Scheidt again led with 15 points and nine rebounds. Patrick Kemper added nine and seven with Matt Johnson grabbing seven boards as well.
The boys then took on Deer River in a conference match-up hoping to put a mark in the win column.
"Our combination defenses again proved hard for the Warriors to figure out in the beginning of the game and we were scrapping through another low scoring first half for about 10 minutes trailing 9 - 12, but Deer Rivers depth and athleticism wore us down late in the first half and they had a big run to make the half time score 38 - 17," commented Coach Vagle.
"We learned a lot from this game. We know what we have to work on getting better at and how important it is to be stronger with the basketball. The guys were disappointed in the outcome and hopefully the outcome will be different in 2 weeks when we face the Warriors at home. Scheidt again led with 13 points, Senior Ken Budreau responded to an emergency start with nine points and Freshman Zach Nornberg popped two three-pointers and a free throw late in the second half to finish with seven," concluded Coach Vagle.
Varsity games are scheduled to begin at 7:15 p.m.
