Eagles claim share of Northern Lakes Conference championship with pair of wins
The boys travelled to Cass Lake on Tuesday to take on the Panthers. Hoping to keep their bats hot from their previous game's 21 hit attack, the Eagles knocked around 17 hits in the 12-1 victory. Austin Likens picked up his third win on the season as he gave up 2 hits and struck out 6.
Likens also led the team as he went 4-5 with a triple and 2 RBI, with Cooper Koval going 3-4 with 2 RBI. Zak Nornberg, Justin Wicks, and Tyler Daudt each collected 2 hits, while Marcus Woods knocked in 2. The Eagles also had their running game going as they swiped 9 bases. Defensively they turned in one of their best games of the season with only one error being committed.

The final regular season game was held on Thursday, with the Littlefork-Big Falls Vikings coming to town. Seniors Zak Nornberg and Austin Likens would be playing in their final regular season game in an Eagle uniform. In addition, the game carried the possibility of the Eagles earning a share of the Northern Lakes Conference Championship with a win.
Nornberg started for the Eagles and fought through four innings with the Eagles still trailing 2-0 entering the home half of the 4th. The boys finally figured out the Viking starting pitcher and base hits and aggressive base running had the Eagles put up four runs to head into the 5th up 4-2. The Eagles added another in bottom of the 5th to push the lead to 5-2. The Vikings would not go away quite so easily on this night as they strung together 4 hits in the 7th inning to tie the game up at 5 heading into the bottom of the 7th.
With the game and a possible conference championship in sight, the Eagles bats responded. Dustin Sepin led off with a single to center. With Sepin on first, the Eagles executed a perfect hit and run as Evan Daudt knocked a sharp single to right, putting runners on the corners with no outs. An intentional walk to Nornberg, loaded the bases for Justin Wicks, who drove the ball deep over the center fielders head for the game winning hit as the Eagles took the 6-5 victory and gain a share of the conference championship!
Nornberg earned his team leading 4th victory, giving up 7 hits and striking out 8. With Nornberg keeping the Viking hitters at bay the offensive once again kept their bats hot pounding out 13 hits. Evan Daudt 3-4, Cooper Kovall 2-3, Marcus Woods 2-3 and both Wicks and Sepin going 2-4, led the Eagle hitters.
