Eagle bats wake up early in 14-3 victory over Hornets

Tuesday, May 7 was the home opener for Northland and the boys bats were alive early.

After holding the Hornets scoreless in their half of the first inning, the Eagles sent 14 batters to the plate and knocked across 9 runs. They then added two more in 2nd, one in 3rd and two in 4th. Starting pitcher Austin Likens kept the Hornets off balance as they could only manage 3 in the 4th and the game was ended after 5 innings by the "ten run rule".

The Eagles played a much better defensive game with only one error, while offensively the hitters were making contact and when they do that, good things happen.

Marcus Woods and Gary Gross were both 2-3 while Patrick Kemper was 3-4 to lead the team at the plate.

EAGLES- 9 2 1 2 x - 14 A road game in Walker on Friday, May 10 had the Eagles jump out to an early lead 6-1 going in to the bottom of the 5th. Three in the bottom of the 5th narrowed the lead to 6-4. The bottom of the 6th saw the Eagles on the other side of a nine run inning for the home squad as the boys experienced what they had done to the Hornets just three days earlier. The Eagles managed to push across another in the top of the 7th but the damage had been done.

Another fine start by Zak Nornberg was not rewarded with a "W", but with at least three more starts remaining in the season those will come. Offensively, Gary Gross was 4-4 with 3 RBI, Austin Likens 3-3 with a BB, while Patrick Kemper went 3-4.

Laporte was next on the schedule for the Eagles as they were on the road to face the Wildcats on Saturday, May 11. Once again cooler temps and a steady 20 mph NW wind made the conditions a bit less than desirable.

Justin Wicks got his first varsity start on the mound for the Eagles, striking out 10 in 4-1/3 innings and picked up the win in the 23-7 Eagles victory.

The Eagles sent 55 batters to the plate as they pounded out 21 hits on the day. Zak Nornberg was 4-5 with 5 RBI, Logan Gross 4-6 and 4 RBI, and Evan Daudt went 3-5 to pace the attack.
