After six weeks of practicing inside and games being postponed, the Northland Eagles baseball team was finally able to take the field. On Friday May 3 the boys travelled to Mountain Iron - Buhl High School to play the Mustangs.

Although the game time temp was a bristling 38 degrees with winds out of the north the Eagles were still excited and ready for the game. Keeping warm was going to be a huge priority on the evening.

Junior Zak Nornberg took the mound for the Eagles and pitched a complete game with five strikeouts. Although the final score showed the Eagles on the short end of a close 5-4 score, all of the Mustangs runs were unearned as errors proved to be the difference in this one. Leading 2-1 heading into the bottom of the 6th, the Eagles defense committed three costly errors that enabled the Mustangs to score four to take a 5-2 lead into the final inning. The Eagles never gave up and had the tying run at second as the game ended.

Offensively, the Eagles were led by Freshman Logan Gross (2-3, 2 runs scored), Zak Nornberg (2-4, 1 run scored, 1 RBI), Justin Wicks (2-3, 1 BB) and Evan Daudt (2-2, 1 RBI).

The Eagles return all players from last seasons 8-10 squad and have only one senior, Patrick Kemper, who is out for a couple weeks after having an emergency appendectomy the day before the game. With three juniors, Zak Nornberg, Austin Likens and newcomer Jacob Trostle, the boys still have one of the younger teams in the area. Sophomores, Justin Wicks, Gary Gross, Marcus Woods, Evan Daudt and Tyler Daudt return along with freshman Logan Gross, Frankie Smith and Dustin Sepin rounding out the varsity squad at this time. Head Coach Ben Kinser said he expects the team to be a contender for the Section 8A title.

With weather postponing the early part of the season, the boys upcoming three week schedule will be busy and fun.
