Ford, Dwayne L. "Whitey", age 80 of Hampton, passed away on November 12, 2015. Dwayne LeeRoy "Whitey" Ford, born on May 29, 1935, was the third of thirteen children born to Ernest and Marion (Sogge) Ford in Longville, Minnesota. Growing up, Dwayne worked with his father and brothers in the logging industry. In high school, he excelled in multiple sports. He enjoyed pitching for Longville's baseball team and he loved playing basketball. After graduating from Longville High School, he earned a scholarship to play basketball at Bemidji State University. After college, Dwayne went to work in the iron mines of Northern Minnesota. He later moved to the Twin Cities area and became a superintendent with Marv Anderson Homes of Bloomington. He married Marjorie (Rust) on March 14, 1964. Together, they began a successful home building business, winning two Reggie Awards (1971 and 1974). Later, he started a remodeling business, specializing in deck and porch building. Dwayne was active in the community and served as president of the Bloomington Lions Club and president of the Minnesota Homebuilders Association. After retiring from building, Dwayne continued to play an active role in his son's construction business where he drew plans, pulled permits and hauled equipment up until his last day. Dwayne remained an avid sports fan and enjoyed serving as "The Commish" of the football board for family and friends. Those involved looked forward to the weekly notes about the standings with special highlights from the lives of those he loved. Although Dwayne sometimes complained about the stray cats on the farm, he made sure that each and every cat in the neighborhood was fed every morning. He also fed and loved his many feathered friends. He never missed a trip to Florida, Las Vegas, or Laughlin, even though he didn't care for flying. He especially looked forward to traveling back to Northern Minnesota for Deer Camp and to an annual family vacation on Leech Lake. The most important part of Dwayne's life was, without a doubt, his family. He enjoyed children and particularly enjoyed watching his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews play in sporting events from Northern Minnesota down to Florida. He felt most at home on the front porch of his farmhouse, with Marj and his children, watching their grandchildren grow up and watching the kegmeister dwindle down.

Dwayne was preceded in death by parents, Ernest and Marion Ford; brothers, Gaylan, Mervin and Melvin, and sister, Marlene Abbas. He is survived by Loving wife, Marjorie (Rust) Ford; children, Roxane (Bob) Binns, Dwayne "Skip" (Diane) Ford, John (Mary) Ford, and Jeff (Trista) Ford; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; siblings, Fran (Art) Schricker, Twyla (Wayne) Elison, Denny (Linda) Ford, Kathy (Dick) Wake, Judy (Bill) Herrmann, Peggy Ford, Debbie McClimek, and Brad (Marilyn) Ford; also by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Memorial Service 2 PM Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Farmington Lutheran Church, 20600 Akin Rd. Farmington, MN. Gathering of family and friends starting at 12 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the MN Nongame Wildlife Program.
