A slow start put the Eagles in a hole they could not get out of against the Pillager Huskies on Friday, January 2.

A long holiday break may have had the Eagles shooting hands a bit cool as the game started. Down early 12-2 after about four minutes, the Eagles slowly chipped away at the Huskies lead and closed to with 25-19 with 7:45 left in the half and got to within 36-31 later in first half before a Pillager flurry near the end of the half extended their lead to 45-31 at the break.

A change in defense in the second half slowed the Huskies attack but the Eagles could not muster a continued offensive flow and the lead grew to 57-36, before the Eagles would once again get some key hoops and closed to within thirteen at 70-57. The boys may have run out of steam as they could not get any closer as the game ended at 80-62.

Coach Carlson was pleased with the continued effort put forth by the Eagles. "We played harder tonight than last game, which is always a great trend to see." Assistant Coach Torgerson commented, "After the break we changed our defense and it helped.......we sometimes try to go too fast and it gets us in trouble."

The Huskies had a distinct height advantage and controlled the boards on this night. The defensive adjustment at half kept the Huskies to only 24 points for the first 15 minutes of the second half.

With road games over the next week at Bigfork (Tuesday Jan 6), Littlefork (Friday Jan 9), and at Menagha on (Monday Jan 12), the effort is there with this squad to start putting some wins on the board. With a pretty inexperienced squad to start the season, the JV and backups are gaining some experience and providing some good minutes when they are put into the game which will help this team heading into the middle section of their season.

The JV once again pulled out a come from behind win earlier in the evening.

Eagles- 31 31 62

Pillager- 45 35 80

Scoring - Woods- 8, Greene-11, Smith-2, Swankier-4, Wicks-22, Kovall-10, Stefan-5.
