Disappointing loss propels Lady Eagles to pair of victories
"We had our opportunities, we just didn't finish... Broke their press great and then had too many easy misses. It looked like we were playing well, we just didn't finish. The score doesn't reflect how we played." Said Head Coach Jenny Kovall after the game.
Chloe Wolske led the offensive charge with 24 points and six steals on defense. Kali Wake dropped 10 points and came down with seven boards and Kristine Johnson chipped in seven points but made her biggest influence on defense with nine take-aways.
There was no time for licking of wounds as the girls had just 24 hours to regain their form and host Chisholm. Bringing the same intensity, but with better luck shining on their shooting hands, the girls righted the ship and topped Bluestreaks 89-47.
"We came out ready to redeem ourselves. The defense was in full force, we took the ball away from their offense 31 times and only turned the ball over on offense nine times. Our entire team really stepped up and it showed in the final score." Glowed Coach Kovall after the game.
Wolske again led offensively with 31 points, six steals and four assists. Maddie Shepard put in 20 points and five steals; Wake put in 17 points, nine boards and six steals; Keyana Gross added 10 points and came down with seven boards and Johnson put up nine points, 10 steals and five assists. Seventh grader Madi Greene dropped her first varsity bucket adding two points.
The Lady Eagle defense would continue to dominate when they traveled to Greenway to take on the Raiders in a conference match-up. With a halftime score of 40-29, the girls only gave up another four points in the game and steamrolled their way to a 70-33 win.
"We have been playing very consistent lately. It was a very physical game up there. Maddie (Shepard) went out with a knee injury early. She's on crutches now but we hope to see her back soon. The girls stepped it up, especially Chloe! We are really starting to develop a good rhythm," commented Coach Kovall.
Wolske topped the entire Raider offense with 34 points including 11 of 12 from the free throw line. Johnson added 13, Wake put down 8 and Gross and Shepard added a half-dozen each.
The Lady Eagles will return to the hardwood tonight (Jan. 20) hosting the Hill City Hornets and on Thursday at Bigfork.[[In-content Ad]]
