County road project contracts awarded
Duininck Inc. was the lowest of four bidders to win the contract to replace the County State Aid Highway 7 bridge east of Longville for $630,873.32 or 14.69 percent over engineering estimates.
County Engineer David Enblom said vehicular and boat traffic will be kept open during construction, which is expected to run from about Sept. 7 to Nov. 15. Improvements for road approaches to the bridge will be completed in 2011.[[In-content Ad]]Anderson Brothers Construction was the lowest of six bidders to win the contract to repave County State Aid Highway 8 between Federal Dam and County Road 157 for $1,338,881.79.
Because Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe has pledge $1,600,000 of Indian Reservation Road funds toward the project, the county board authorized Enblom to negotiate an extension of the project to use the full $1.6 million allocation.
Enblom said this will enable paving about two more miles and will leave only three miles of CSAH 8 south of Federal Dam yet to be resurfaced.
After holding a public hearing, the county board voted to transfer ownership of six-tenths of a mile of old County 52 to Slater Township. County State Aid Highway 52 was moved farther away from Graves Lake about 10 years ago, Enblom said, leaving the former highway alignment to serve only as access for houses along the lake.
