County hires Dahlman as assistant land commissioner
The county had advertised the position, then reviewed applications before deciding to promote from within the department. The county now will advertise to fill the vacant resource manager position.
The board voted to hire low bidder Fuhr Flying service for $20,601 to fly over the northwest area of the county this year to take infrared aerial photos. These photos are taken over the entire county on a rotating basis over a few years to keep current views of the county's timber inventory.
Northern Engineering and Consulting was lowest of six bidders to win a $10,520 contract to survey the boundaries of land the county plans to log in Woodrow and Ponto Lake Township. Kohout Surveying was low bidder to survey a plot in Bull Moose Township for $4,474, a plot in Thunder Lake Township for $14,875 and a plot in Poplar Township for $6,300.
Superior Forest Services was the lower of two bidders to win a contract to plant 41,500 trees on already logged county land at $49.75 per thousand seedlings.
LeRoy Baldwin donated .08 of acre of land to the county in Torrey Township. The site is across the road from the major portion of his property and abuts U.S. Forest Service land.
Land Commissioner Joshua Stevenson said he will recommend the county either offer it for public auction or trade it to U.S. Forest Service in the future.
The board approved allowing the state to burn some county land with state land planned for an annual spring burn in the northeast part of the county and just south and west of the city of Boy River.
All six tracts of timber the county offered for sale on a March 27 auction sold, Stevenson reported.
Aspen sold for $25.89 per cord. Prices ranged from $12.02 per cord for a small acreage of ash to $30.25 per cord for the 2,304 cords of red oak offered.
