County board selects Tumberg director of HHVS
Tumberg currently is finance director for the city of Excelsior. She has a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Minnesota State University Moorhead.
Before working for the city of Excelsior, Tumberg was employed by the city of Mound, KDV Ltd. in Minneapolis and the North Dakota State Auditor's office in Fargo, N.D.
Cass County District 5 Commissioner Dick Downham and District 4 Commissioner Scott Bruns did not attend Tuesday's board meeting.
In other business:
The commissioners approved revised by-laws for a reorganized Emergency Medical Services Board, which serves as an advisory board to the sheriff's department.
Wilma Griffin of Longville, who has served 32 years on the emergency board, explained to the commissioners all emergency board members are state certified after additional training every two years as emergency medical responders.
Health, Human and Veterans Services spent 20.6 percent of the 2016 budget after 25 percent of the year or $3,013,065. The county share of out of home child placement costs ran $520,187 or 23 percent of budget projections.
The commissioners accepted the lowest of four bids from Knife River Materials at $834,861.51. The bid ran 10.19 percent under engineering estimates. The project will resurface 2 miles of County State Aid Highway 75 (Bingo Palace Road) and County Road 150, east of Cass Lake. Leech Lake Reservation will pay a portion of the cost.
The board approved paying the Cass County Agricultural Association a budgeted $5,000 again this year to support 4-H program activities at the Cass County Fair at Pine River.
Environmental Services Director John Ringle obtained board approval to retain a Bemidji State University student intern through the summer. Sara Anderson will work on mapping watersheds in the county, which will become part of the county's water plan.
In donations-Shingobee Township donated $500 for the Lakes Area Dive Team. Our Savior's Lutheran Church and its Women of ELCA donated $250 to the sheriff's chaplaincy program.
Lake May Senior Center donated two push mowers valued at $560 to the sheriff's department.
Central Services Director Tim Richardson obtained board approval to attend a Honeywell training conference in Arizona in June. County portion of the costs will run about $500.
The commissioners approved adding probation department employees to those who may participate in the county Health Care Savings Plan, a portion of the county's cafeteria plan.
