ELK RIVER - Clarence Paper, 69, of Elk River, Minnesota died peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the Guardian Angels Care Center in Elk River, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Clarence was born December 1, 1941 on Bear Island, near Battle Point to William and Evelyn (White) Paper. He attended school in Boy River until the age of eleven and then moved to Pine River, Minnesota where he graduated from high school. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served our country from 1959-1962. Upon completion of his time in the military he lived in Northeast Minneapolis and worked as a supervisor at Dorsky Consolidated Container for many years. In 1975 he began his sobriety journey, an accomplishment that he was very proud of, and in 1979 he married the love of his life, Barbara Simpson. Due to health problems his daughter became his caregiver in 2002 which prompted a move to Brainerd, Minnesota where they lived until their move to Elk River in 2009 and where he remained until the present.

His main focus in life was his family, and was faithful in attending his grandchildren's sporting events, and enjoyed eating good food and get togethers with family. He also loved to fish, play bingo, watch sports on television, and travel to Las Vegas whenever the opportunity arose. Clarence will be remembered for his persistence and inner strength. His presence will be missed.

Clarence is survived by his daughter Amy Doyle, grandson, Miles Cunningham, granddaughter, Raina Doyle, great grandson, Gabriel Cunningham, great granddaughter, Kiera Gibson, brothers; Leonard (Mary) Paper, Ronnie Mitchell, sister, Gloria Jourdain, aunt, Agnes White, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Barbara, sisters; Elizabeth Paper, Caroline Monroe, Lorraine Paper, brothers; Donald Paper, William Paper, and several close friends.

Traditional services will be held Friday, March 11, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Sugar Point Community Center with Allen Hardy as spiritual leader. Wake will begin Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 5:00 P.M. at the Sugar Point Community Center and run until time of service. Interment will be in the Battle Point Cemetery.
