His entire career was focused on education and he had a passion for designing schools for success. In 1965 he started working at Mason City School High School as a teacher and quickly moved into administration. While in Mason City, he met Diane Roppe, daughter of Irving and Lola Roppe, and in 1969 they began a wonderful 42 year marriage. He went on to become an Educational Research Fellow at Iowa State University; Marketing Director at National Computer Systems in Eden Prairie, Minn.; Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Technology for the Fridley, Minn., Public Schools; consultant to many U.S. school districts, and author of books and articles on education.
He held many community roles including school board member, planning commission member, church council member, as well as involvement in many political campaigns and charitable organizations. Most recently he was on the Salem Lutheran Church Council, the Pinnacle Presbyterian Theological Center and on the Board of Governors of Opportunity International.
In 1997 Chuck and his wife purchased property on Blackwater Lake and named it "Cry of the Loon." The loons, the trees, the crystal clear waters and the wonderful people in the community were all a great blessing to Chuck.
He will be greatly missed by many friends and family including his wife Diane; daughter Kristin Ruebling-Jass and her partner Angela; son Brent; grandson and namesake Charles Ruebling-Jass; and mother-in-law Lola Roppe.
A memorial service and celebration of life was held at Pinnacle Presbyterian Church in Scottsdale, Arizona on July 8, 2011. A second memorial service will be held in Longville, at Salem Lutheran church on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at 2 p.m.
