Charles was born September 5, 1925 to Herman and Elsie (Baseman) Larson on a farm in Acoma Township, McLeod County, near Hutchinson, MN. At the age of seven, he lost most of his sight, due to polio. He attended the Minnesota School for the Blind at Faribault, but spent summers at home, where he helped on the family farm. Charlie was the oldest of 8 children and there were many chores to be done. He graduated in May of 1945, and on February 13, 1949, he married Gloria Ford, whom he had met the previous summer. Charlie and Gloria and their first two children lived in Hutchinson until September of 1951, when they moved to Longville. Three more children were born to them there.
Charlie is remembered as a wonderful, energetic, kindhearted, helpful, and intelligent man. He was a hard worker and did not allow his sight limitations to prevent him from accomplishing his goals. He and Gloria purchased her family's farm and eventually added more land, cows, and machinery to make it a successful dairy farm of their own. Charlie was dedicated to his faith and though he was never able to read the Bible, he enjoyed listening to it and other books read on tapes.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria; sons, David (Karen) Larson, Randy Larson, and Kevin Larson; daughters, Wanda Swanson and Charlene Strey; brothers, William "Bill" (Anna) Larson and Eugene (Marlene) Larson; sisters, Romayne Odegaard and Kayla (Bob) Fraiser; 11 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Preceding Charlie in death were brothers, Laurence Larson, Duane Larson, and Roger Larson; and sister, Lorraine Larson.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Longville Bible Chapel in Longville, MN. There will be visitation prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Michael Partch will officiate and interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Longville.
