Cass nets $12,000 in used vehicle sales
Sheriff Tom Burch and Chief Deputy Erick Hoglund volunteered their time to auctioneer the sale. Volunteering time to clerk the sale were Melanie Wolfe, health, human and veterans services fiscal supervisor, and Linda Husby, administrative secretary.
The county also sold $3,330 worth of excess city of Walker property and $65 worth for Shingobee Township.
Chief Financial Officer Larry Wolfe informed the county board Tuesday that county staff will recommend only larger items like vehicles be offered for sale in future years. It does not seem cost effective to spend the time on smaller sale items when four chairs sell for a dollar, he said.
The county board received notice of Great River Energy's and Crow Wing Power's proposed 115 kilovolt electric transmission project planned for the Motley area. A public hearing is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 23 at Motley United Methodist Church, 847 Third Ave. S., Motley, to explain the proposed line.
Kurt Sawyer won the contract with a lowest of three bids at $81.98 per hour to remove snow from the land department parking lot at Backus this winter.
Minnesota Department of Corrections has withdrawn from leasing an office space in the land department building at the end of its lease Feb. 28, 2015.
The board approved allowing Eagle Country Snowmobile/ATV Club to install a shelter at the junction of two recreational trails in Section 27 of Lima Township. The club will maintain the building after it is installed. The club will match a $1,300 county contribution to build it.
The commissioners approved extending American Tower Company's lease through 2035 for a communications tower in Section 2 of North Trelipe Township. It sits on county administered land.
They approved an $125 easement across a corner of county land for an existing road Potlatch uses to reach property Potlatch plans to sell to a private purchaser.
The commissioners referred to a committee of Commissioners Bob Kangas and Jeff Peterson complaints from three landowners concerning all-terrain vehicle damage to their driveways.
They supported National Joint Powers Alliance innovation funding program that would launch the SPROUT Marketplace in Little Falls.
Auditor-Treasurer Sharon Anderson reported the county received about $20,000 more interest on investments this year through August than in 2013, with the total received so far this year being $525,976.35.
The board approved paying $7,500 to the plaintiff to settle a lawsuit filed in federal court brought by Roger Davis against the county and sheriff's department. Of that the county will pay $2,500. Minnesota Counties Insurance Trust insurance will pay $5,000.
