Cass County to sell 18 land parcels by auction June 29
One commercial city lot in Pine River will see the appraised price lowered from $8,500 to $6,000. That site has been occupied by a bookstore. Others include acreages in several townships, two lakeshore lots and several parcels in The Crossing development at Pillager.
All are tax forfeited properties and have road access. Descriptions will be listed on the county website, www.co.cass.mn.us , beginning about May 15.
The county sold $284,279.20 worth of timber stumpage from county managed land at an April 25 auction. Aspen sold for $22.98 per cord. Prices ranged between $4 per cord for bur oak and $10 per cord for basswood to $24.70 per cord for jackpine and $27.85 per cord for red oak.
Pine saw logs sold for $75 per thousand board feet.
Land Commissioner Joshua Stevenson obtained board approval Tuesday to award a contract to the lowest bidder able to meet the county's contract terms for aerial seeding of red and white pine, spruce and balsam fir over 284 acres in Beulah, Thunder Lake, North Trelipe, Wabedo, Inguadona and Torrey Townships.
That firm, Teryjon Aviation, bid $13.30 per acre. They will use a helicopter to do the seeding.
Future Forests is the low bidder awarded a contract to do site preparation and herbicide application on 20 acres in Byron Township, 17 acres in McKinley Township, 16 acres in Ponto Lake Township and 14 acres in Deerfield Township to prepare the sites for future tree planting.
