LAKE SHORE - Hiking and biking trails could become a reality for Lake Shore residents following a Cass County Board meeting Tuesday at the city hall.

A longtime summer resident brought up the historic safety hazard for those who try to walk along the shoulder of busy County State Aid Highway 77 (Interlachen Road) that runs through the city on the northwest shore of Gull Lake.[[In-content Ad]]

District 1 Commissioner Neal Gaalswyk offered to meet with Lake Shore officials and residents after the meeting to lay out an action plan to look for funding and trail design assistance for the city.

He warned residents, however, that it has taken East Gull Lake seven years to create a plan, secure funding and complete construction for their trails.

Land Commissioner Joshua Stevenson noted there are highway bike route funds available through the highway department in addition to trails funding that could be available through his department.

Environmental Services Department Director John Ringle reported that Nisswa is in the process of planning trails. He suggested Lake Shore might consider coordinating trail routes with Nisswa.
