Cass County jury convicts Deerwood man of illegal possession of firearm and other crimes
During the three day trial, the judy heard evidence that on Nov. 13, 2013, Deputy Charles Ratz and Sergeant Jason Brogle of the Cass County Sheriff Department went to a house in Southern Cass County to look for a woman with warrants. When the officers arrived at the residence, they observed a man standing outside a trailer. The man went inside the trailer when he saw the officers, locking himself inside. The officers unsuccessfully attempted to make contact with the man. Officers uncovered the man's identity, Carl Andrew Raba, then learned there were several warrants for his arrest out of Crow Wing County.
Officers entered the trailer and found Raba sitting on a bed next to a Ruger 10/22 rifle, a violation of a prior felony conviction for a crime of violence. When Raba was taken into custody, several ammunition cartridges were found on his person. Two more firearms were also found in the trailer where Raba was found. Methamphetamine was also discovered. Further investigation revealed the camper trailer Raba was found in had been stolen out of Crow Wing County. Additionally, two all-terrain vehicle located on the property, multiple trailers and numerous personal property, including a pistol, all items previously reported stolen, were found on the property. In total, property from at least eight victims was recovered.
After the verdict Raba was remanded into custody of the Cass County Sheriff pending sentencing, with will be at 1 p.m., on July 28.[[In-content Ad]]
