Cass County Board: County sells $500,000 in land so far in 2019
That includes 13 parcels sold over the counter at the land department office in Backus and another 24 parcels sold at a July 11 annual auction.
Half of that goes back into a land department tax-forfeited property account and half will be distributed to cities and townships where the sold land is located ($51,578.50), school districts ($103,157) and the county general fund ($103,157).
The land department also sold logging rights on county-administered land at a July 25 auction, with 7,626 cords sold on six parcels for $279,167.
Average price loggers paid for 4,560 cords of aspen was $39.84 per cord. Average price paid for 1,304 cords of red oak was $43.07. Smaller amounts of birch, maple, ash, balsam fir, basswood and bur oak also were sold.
Tuesday, Aug. 6, the county board approved a contract with low bidder Hengel Construction for $350 to remove debris from a tax-forfeited property in Sylvan Township and a contract with low bidder Schrupp Excavating for $500 to remove debris from a tax-forfeited property in Deerfield Township.
The board also awarded a $150 contract to the lowest of three bidders, Schrupp Excavating, to replace seven boulders to block a carry-in access to Sand Lake.
GCS Construction Services won a $700 contract to deliver 60 yards of taconite tailings to a Torrey Township forest access road. A logger working in that area will be required to spread.
Schrupp Excavating won a contract to repair a culvert and washout on a forest access road in Thunder Lake Township caused by storm damage. They will supply fill for $12 per yard and charge $100 per hour for skid steer operation.
