Cass Commissioners look at area funding sources, services
Longville's service is a branch of North Memorial Medical Ambulance Services.
Revenue from clients and their insurance ran $406,672. Residents in that service area paid another $411,000 toward the service with their property taxes.
Longville Ambulance had $700,388 in expenses in 2016, giving them a net margin of $2,352 or 0.3 percent.
Auditor-Treasurer Sharon Anderson obtained county board approval for this year's newsletter to taxpayers, which will be mailed with the tax statements this spring.
Topics will include how the new county transportation tax is being spent and how retailers register to collect it, which roads will be paved this summer, aquatic invasive species prevention efforts, ProAct prescription drug discounts, zoning permits required for all structures, county personnel changes, county board information goes online and a free property fraud prevention service.
Anderson obtained board approval to permit Kevin Jacobs to repurchase property he owns in Hackensack by paying delinquent and current property taxes, penalties and related fees in the amount of $2,010.43
Cass sheriff's office received a $56,114 Minnesota Department of Natural Resources boat and water safety grant for 2017.
The commissioners selected Sawyer Enterprises as the lowest of three bidders at $490 to remove garbage from an Ansel Township property.
Health, Human and Veterans Services Department has renewed a contract with Pine River/Backus Family Center to provide child and teen checkups outreach in 2017; renewed contracts with John Parkin MD, Geri Wilimek LICSW, Pat Cortese PhD to provide adult and children's mental health services; and renewed a partnership with Morrison-Todd-Wadena Community Health Board for the Nurse Family Partnership program.
The family partnership service is designed to help first time parents have healthier pregnancies, be better parents, have emotionally and physically healthier children and attain greater economic self-sufficiency.
County commissioners met in closed session at the end of Tuesday's meeting to discuss with the county attorney a petition for a cartway. No board action was taken following the closed session..
