PINE RIVER-Cass County Auditor-Treasurer Sharon Anderson updated the county board Tuesday on some of the changes being made to the county capital improvement plan.

There will be a public hearing on the plan at 9 a.m. during the June 9 regular board meeting at the courthouse in Walker.

The county's costs for improvements to the south courthouse parking lot and curb, gutter and new connections to the city's sewer and water systems are expected to cost the county more than $300,000. There would be additional cost for the county to make connections to the city storm drains.

The city of Walker is replacing utility lines under streets and repaving many city streets this year, including around the courthouse.

Another added county expense Anderson cited would be a paving project at the county's garbage and recycling transfer station north of Pine River.

The five-year road construction plan has been extended to include the additional roads, which now can be paved since the county implemented a local option sales tax for transportation April 1. Anderson obtained board approval to contract with SeaChange (formerly Synergy) to print election ballots this year. They are a contract partner with the Minnesota-approved vendor for the software system Cass uses for voting.

Anderson reported the county earned $372,808.31 interest on investments the first four months this year, compared with $242,761.39 last year. This represents 38 percent of the budget estimate for this year after 33 percent of the year.
