Cass Board approves plans for capital improvements

WALKER-Chief Financial Officer Sandra Norikane obtained county board approval Tuesday, June 5, for the county's five-year capital improvement plan.

The plan had no major changes since presented at the May 1 board meeting.

It calls for adding about $1,155,004 from $170,000 in levy dollars, various equipment sales, various grants, a revolving equipment fund and some reimbursements. It calls for spending $2,856,423 in 2018.

This would draw down the capital improvement fund from $15,093,689 at the beginning of the year to a net $13,939,108 at the end of 2018.

Tuesday's action also authorizes county staff to spend the allocated amounts for 2018.

Those expenditures include improved security, a new phone system and general upkeep at county buildings in Walker. It includes buying new election equipment and creating a climate controlled area in an existing building to store the equipment.

The law enforcement center roof in Walker will be replaced.

Stabilizing a damaged wall at the garbage transfer station north of Pine River will be completed. Another section of the county will have high-resolution aerial photos taken.

The largest expense in 2018 will be $718,900 to replace the county highway garage at Longville. It will cost $95,000 to complete the parking lot for the Remer garage this year. The county replaced its Remer garage last year. Cass also plans to spend $186,000 for highway garage improvements throughout the county.

The county set aside $10,000 toward improvements at Deep Portage Learning Center.
