Cass Board approves funding toward trail
The county earlier had committed $102,000 to the project.
County Engineer David Enblom reported engineering for the trail has indicated a wetland the trail will cross has poor soils and is deeper than anticipated, thus the need for additional funding.
He said the wetland crossing could cost less, but he does not expect it to exceed $150,000.
The county board Tuesday approved a cooperative agreement with the city of Remer.
That agreement spells out the fact that city will provide land and pay to construct a new fire station building, plus a planned new ambulance service garage attached to a new planned county highway garage on one site in the city. The city already owns the land.
The commissioners voted to support federal grant applications seeking to fund a pedestrian bridge, fishing and picnic area adjacent to a county highway bridge at the Federal Dam dam site.
It would be similar to a pedestrian bridge recently completed for the County State Aid Highway 8 bridge over the Boy River cooperatively with Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe south of Federal Dam.
