Cass board adopts timetable to appoint administrator

WALKER-Cass County commissioners adopted a timetable Tuesday to begin the process to seek a replacement for retiring County Administrator Robert Yochum.

Cass County created its administrator position in 1996. Yochum has been the only person to fill the position during the intervening 20 years.

The county will advertise for a new administrator from Jan. 10 to Feb. 12. Department interviews with candidates may be conducted following the board's regular Jan. 19 meeting.

Following the board's Feb. 16 regular meeting, the commissioners plan to rank applications, draft interview questions and authorize initial reference checks.

The full board will hold work session interviews the week of March 1, followed by second interviews before considering making an appointment at the March 15 regular board meeting.

Salary negotiations, start dates and final reference checks with finalists are anticipated before final interviews. The commissioners indicated they expect to incorporate staff assistance during their selection process.
