Carole Jane (Susie) Stephens died Thursday, January 28th, 2016 at home in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

A memorial was held in Oklahoma but her family has brought her ashes home to be buried with her family, beside her mother and father to the town she loved so much Federal Dam Minnesota.

Friday, May 27th 2016 at 12:00 pm the family and anyone who loved her is invited to the Fairview Cemetery in Federal Dam to say a final good bye and then immediately following join the family under covered pavilion at the Leech Lake Rec area campground for a potluck dinner to celebrate her life and tell stories.

Susie was born June 4, 1941 in Deer River, Minnesota to Hazel (Henderson) Giffen and Andy Giffen. She attended school (grades 1-8) in Federal Dam and continued her education at the Boy River High School. Susie was a Cheerleader for the Boy River Bullets (1955-1959) and was Homecoming Queen her Senior Year. She graduated from Boy River High School in 1959.

After graduation, Susie worked as a waitress at various cafes and restaurants in Federal Dam, Bena, and Grand Rapids. She met her future husband, Larry Stephens, while he was working as a pipeline inspector for the Lakehead Pipeline in Northern Minnesota. After their engagement, she moved to Oklahoma City and attended Cosmetology School. Susie and Larry were married July 20, 1963. They made their home in Stillwater, Edmond, Oklahoma City and Shawnee Oklahoma. During this time, Susie worked at the bookstore at Oklahoma State University and University of Central Oklahoma.

Those Susie joins again are her parents, Andy and Hazel Giffen; Her husband, Larry Stephens, her brother, Gordon Giffen, her daughter-in-law, Christi Stephens and her niece, Rochelle Doms.

Those left to mourn her passing are her Son Scott and Jana Stephens, children Andrew and Ethan Skidmore, Kali Moore, Randi Rae, Morgan Stephens, Daughter Holly and Yan Brown, child; Yan Eric Brown Jr., Daughter Robin and Warren Gale, children Natasha Hart, Rachel Fine, Ciarra Bryant, Todd Gale, and Michael Gale, nine Great Grandchildren; Brother, Garey Giffen, Dianne (Zuelow) Giffen, sister-in-law, Mary Lou Giffen, nine nephews, four nieces, fourteen great nephews, thee great nieces and a host of cousins.
