Build date rapidly approaching
To the Editor:
We are a Christian non-profit organization that strives to build simple decent affordable housing. Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity is a locally run affiliate out of Brainerd that is a member of a world wide effort to eliminate poverty housing! We service all of Cass, Crow Wing & Hubbard Counties. We've also built homes on the Mille Lacs Reservation.
We partner with local businesses, volunteers, clubs and churches to help build homes with qualifying families. Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest 300 hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.
We select families in a way that does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, color, age, handicap, religion, marital status, or because all or part of the applicant's income is derived from public assistance.
Over the last 24 years, Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity has worked successfully with community volunteers, churches and businesses to build and renovate over 80 homes with families. It's life changing work for our volunteers as well as the families we serve. Habitat for Humanity offers qualified families the opportunity to buy a simple and decent home affordably. Lakes Area HFH Partner Families and volunteers have built homes in the communities of Baxter, Brainerd, Breezy Point, Crosby, Crosslake, Cuyuna, Deerwood, Emily, Federal Dam, Fort Ripley, Hackensack, Hinckley, Ironton, Isle, Jenkins, Lake Shore, LaPorte, Onamia, Park Rapids, Pillager, Pine River, Riverton, Scearcyville and Walker. The over 250 people in those families now have a decent home through the good work of Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity.
Basically, Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity offers a Hand up, not a Hand out. Building in Remer has been one of the most rewarding, yet challenging projects I have had the privilege of working on. It has been very difficult raising the necessary funds to complete this home in time for the family to move into by Christmas. If 500 people were to donate $50.00 or more today, this family would have a home for Christmas. Please prayerfully consider donating today by visiting our website at www.lakesareahabitat.org or by sending a check to LAHFH, P.O. Box 234, Brainerd MN 56401. If you would like more information, please feel free to contact me at 218-828-8517 or email me at [email protected] Many hands make light work!
