WALKER-Traffic Marking Services won the right to paint lane striping on Cass County roads with a bid 30.16 percent below engineering estimates at $481,172.30.

All the other three bids ran at least 12 percent under estimates.

Cass County will do summer road grading and bill Minnesota DNR for equipment use and labor on three access roads to DNR properties. They include Laura Lake access, Big Rice Lake and Mud Goose wildlife management areas.

Cass County Board Tuesday approved closing the existing public access for ice fishing from Shingobee Island to Leech Lake and designated a new access about a block north of the old one. No one from the public appeared to comment at a public hearing on the change.

The county set a new public hearing for July 6 at the 9 a.m. regular county board meeting at the courthouse in Walker to consider adopting an ordinance governing rights of way along county roads.

Among other issues covered, the ordinance proposes to require permits for utilities to place lines in a right of way.

The commissioners also voted to incorporate rules governing utility crossings of judicial and county ditches by permit into the proposed right of way ordinance.

They approved extending another four-years an agreement with Minnesota Department of Transportation to enable the county and state highway departments to provide services and payments to each other..
