Bette graduated from Hackensack High School in 1942. She continued her education at Bemidji College and the Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, MN. In 1943 she enlisted in the Nurse Cadet Corps and served in an Army outpatient clinic during World War II. After her discharge in 1945 she attended St. Cloud State College. After graduation she worked at the Brainerd Clinic until 1952 when she married Bill Green.
Bette was an active member of the Hackensack American Legion Auxiliary for more than 55 years, active member of Deep Portage since the 1970's and served as chairperson of Friends of Deep Portage beginning in 1975. She was a long-time member of Union Congregational Church in Hackensack, where she was involved in youth programs and Sunday School. Bette also served for many years with the Five Wings Art Council, Performing Arts in Pequot Lakes, Centennial Boards of the Isaac Walton League, was Heartland Queen Judge, Sweetheart Parade Chairperson and Chaplain of the American Legion.
Bette was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers; 1 sister; and her husband, Bill. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Green of Laporte; daughter, Lisa (Brian) Van Vickle of Walker; son, Tom Leaper of Laporte; grandchildren, Tommy, Marissa, Shannon; great grandchildren, Symone and Nation; sister-in-law, Rosie Woodruff; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. on Friday, May 31, at Union Congregational Church, Hackensack. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Hackensack. Arrangements are with Kline Funeral Home, Pine River.[[In-content Ad]]
