Tony had a 30 year career as a Star Tribune truck driver and retired "up North". Tony enjoyed his hobby farm in Backus, hunting, fishing, gardening, rides around his property on his golf cart, taking country drives to sight see, watching sports on TV, and mostly visiting with friends and family.
Survived by his beloved companion Barb Frederick, Son Scott (Angie) Mertens of Elk River, Daughter's Julienne Mertens of Castle Rock, WA; Valerie (Michael) Anderson of Zimmerman; Amy Mertens of Castle Rock, WA. Step-Daughter Carrie (Richard) McAllister of Pine river, 9 Grandchildren, 11 Great-Grandchildren, 5 Step-Grandchildren and many relatives, friends and extended family of the Backus American Legion.
Per Tony's wishes, there will be no funeral, but a Celebration of Life at the Backus American Legion on April 7th from 1-5 p.m. Everyone is welcome and invited to come and share a favorite Tony (Ynot) story with family and friends.[[In-content Ad]]
