Clarice Annette Karkula

   Clarice Annette Karkula, 92, of Nevis, MN passed away Sunday, August 1, 2021.

   Clarice A. Karkula was born in Remer, MN to William H. Brown and Edna Brown (Boe) on August 22, 1928.  She graduated from Remer High School in 1946. While attending Minneapolis Business College to become a Medical Secretary she married Carl Nicklason in February 1947. Later that year they moved to Remer and bought their first home. Two sons, Steven and Gary, were born and Clarice spent 17 years raising the family. In 1964 she moved to Minneapolis and worked for General Mills. In 1966 she married Edward Karkula. They retired to Blue Lake in Park Rapids in 1973, joining Headwaters Golf Course and Calvary Lutheran Church. In 2002 they moved into the town of Park Rapids due to Edward’s health issues. He passed away in 2008. Clarice later moved to Summerfield Apartments and lived there until 2019 when she moved in with her son Gary and his wife, Linda in Nevis.

   She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; 3 brothers, Bruce, Allen and Donald Brown; and a sister-in-law.

   She is survived by her sons, Steve (Ginger) Nicklason and Gary (Linda) Nicklason; grandchildren, Peter Nicklason, Carrie (Tony) Cola, Trevor (Becky) Nicklason, Brent (Lindsey) Nicklason, and Reid (Julie) Nicklason; and 10 great-grandchildren.

   Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 9, 2021 at Peace Lutheran Church in Nevis.  Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 8, 2021 at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Park Rapids and for one hour prior to the service on Monday.  Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Remer.
