Memorial Day services planned in the Lakeland

Monday, May 25, is Memorial Day. Due to COVID-19 many Lakeland area events have been modified to abide by State recommendations. The following is a list of some of the area's Memorial Day Services and activities.

Buddy poppy sale

VFW Post #772 and Ladies Auxiliary will be offering Buddy Poppies in return for a donation on Friday and Saturday, May 22-23. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic Buddy Poppy donation locations will be very limited and the Post will be following social distancing guidelines. The Buddy Poppy slogan is "to honor the dead by helping the living." Donations received through the drive are used to fund programs at Veterans hospitals and homes throughout Minnesota, in addition to aiding active service members and families as needed.

In an effort to abide by social distancing guidelines Longville's Memorial Day program will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 25 at the Longville Cemetery. Sherman A. Yocum VFW Post 772 will provide military honors. Attendees are invited to stand at the cemetery or observe from their vehicles. There will be no traditional program at the Longville Fire Hall this year.

Remer's Memorial Day Program begins at noon, on Monday, May 25, at the Fairview Cemetery. VFW Post #772 will be providing honor guard. Attendees are invited to stand at the cemetery or observe from their vehicles.

The Hackensack American Legion Post 2020 will host an amended ceremony Monday, May 25 at 11 a.m. at Veteran's Cemetery just south of Hackensack.
