7/30/2019 11:30:00 AM Northland School Board Hears About Staff Training

The Northland Board met Wednesday, July 24 at Northland High School in Remer for the regular montly meeting. The evening began with all consent items being approved with board chair, Marc Ruyak highlighting the donation of $85.70 from Boxtops for Education for Northland Elementary.
Principal Mary Yakibchuk was on hand to share with the board the training that the staff has been receiving this summer to help them be more productive during next school year. Approximately nine of the high school staff attended an AVID training and walked away excited and inspired. Carol Procopio mentioned that she was one of the teachers to attend and during this training each teacher went to a subject focused group. For instance if you were a math teacher then you went to training specifically for math teachers.
In other Board action:
Superintendent Pat Rendle briefly mentioned that he is in talks with transportation concerning activities transportation and will have more information at the next meeting. Rendle also suggested holding a special meeting in August to approve some personnel positions that will be filled before the school year begins.
Ellie Hill, District Business Manager, discussed the district's Long Term Facilites Maintenance Plan before the board approved the resolution. Hill mentioned that this plan is something that will always be changing due the student enrollment.
Accepted the resignation of Scarlet Bennett as Board member and as Head Volleyball Coach, effective July 10.
Approved the hire of Kimberly Miller, Special Ed Teacher, with a start date of August 23.
The board has scheduled the following meetings: A policy committee on August 13 at 10 a.m., a work session on August 14 at 5:30 p.m. with a special board meeting to follow at 6:30 p.m. and the regular board meeting, Wednesday, August 28 at 5:30 p.m., all meetings are held at Northland High School.
