The Northland School Board met Thursday, October 25 at Northland High School, Remer, for the regular monthly meeting.
The evening began with all consent items were approved unanimously. There was brief discussion on acceptance of $1055.80 from Remer Volunteer Fireman's Fund for Five Prevention Week Materials.
In addition, Principal Mary Yakibchuk presented her report. She began with an update on Public Learning Community (PLC) activities, including: Helping teachers effectively use benchmarks on assignments, syllabus, worksheets and online learning materials for students to refer to; posting standards and goals for students to adhere to; goal setting for reading and math to include one-on-one conferences to help students achieve their highest potential and the enormous amount of fun students are having with Community Education's Lego League and Pumpkin Carving for the Halloween season. Yakibchuk also informed the board that the District is still in search of qualified applicants for Little Sands Learning Center (LSLC). She brought up the consideration of posting the position as full time. She also recommends the board considers hiring Soliant as a direct telepresence and paperwork support for LCSC. Yakibchuk feels the change would allow for more success in McKinney's 5th grade class and LSLC.

Representatives from Minnesota Department of Education visited Northland and felt faculty's dedication to students. Also, the second strategic planning session was held Oct. 11.
