Winter Festival/Mid-MN 150 return to Remer
By Ally Garbe of Press-Citizen

REMER - In conjunction with the 30th Annual Mid Minnesota Dog Sled Races, with legs between Outing and Remer, the Remer Area Chamber of Commerce and Remer Merchants invite area residents to take part in the Annual Festival of the Falling Snowflakes celebration, on Saturday, Feb. 10th.

The eight-dog pro class takes on a 40 mile race, begins at 10 a.m. The six-dog recreational class, running 30 miles, will begin in Outing at 12:30 p.m. and finish in Remer. The awards ceremony will take place at the Remer Fire Hall shortly after the conclusion of the race, tentatively around 4:30 p.m.

The annual Remer Chili Cook-off will take place at the Fire Hall. Chili entries should be dropped off between 2 and 2:45 p.m. Chili will be served beginning at 3 p.m. Come hungry! Diners can vote on their favorite chili. The chef with the most votes will receive a $50 cash prize and an apron and a year's worth of bragging rights! Drop-in chili competitors for the event are welcome.

A number of events begin at 2 p.m. Warm up at the bonfire near the Soo Line Trail and watch the mushers cross the finish line. Wood for this year's bonfire has been provided by Remer Mill.

The fun doesn't stop there! Teams of four may sign up for Finnish ski races; race times will vary depending on number of participants. There will also be a Scavenger Hunt with the first clue will be available at the Fire Hall.

Kid's games will start at 3 p.m. with Bigfoot Bean Bags, a sledding hill and bobsled run near the Soo Line Trail behind the Fire Hall and more!

Also at 3 p.m. will be a short Antique Snowmobile Race; meet at the Fire Hall.

The Remer Area Chamber of Commerce always welcomes volunteers to help with events. Show up and offer assistance! For more information on the chili cook-off call Terri Williams at 566-2355. For more information on the dog sled race search for Mid Minnesota 150 on Facebook.
