Ed Wood died peacefully at this home in New Lenox, IL, on Dec. 13, 2020 at the age of 89. He was born Sept. 26, 1931 and raised in Chicago Ridge, IL, but his heart was always in Longville, MN. He moved is family to Minnesota in 1958 and rented a cabin at Blue Spruce Lodge on Woman Lake, which he managed for five years. He was a carpenter by trade. He built his house on jack Lake and, along with Ed Florzak, the Pines Motel in Longville. In 1962 he opened the Longville bakery and later, Woody's A&W drive-in, which employed many of the local teens. He was industrious by nature, and no job was too big or difficult to tackle. When he returned to Illinois in 1966, he obtained his pilots license, enabling him to fly friends and family between there and his cabin on Girl Lake. That was truly his "happy place", where many fond memories were made on the screened porch playing cards or just shooting the breeze. He was a passionate fisherman and loved being on the lake going after "the big one". In a last conversation with his granddaughter he said, "If you ever get in trouble, just give me a call and I'll take you fishing."
Ed is survived by his wife, Joann, along with his daughter, Jayne (Dave) Maugeri of Tinley Park, IL, his son, Pat (Jeannie) Wood of Walker, MN, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. A celebration of his life will take place in the spring of 2021 in Longville.
