Roger Swan
d. August 12, 2020

Roger Swan, 81, of Longville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 12, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Roger grew up in south Minneapolis. He was an ambitious young boy and found a job as a caddy where his love of golf began. A favorite story he loved to tell was when he caddied for Patty Berg, founding member of the LPGA. Another highlight of his teen years was driving the beautiful convertibles for the Aquatennial Royalty in the Minneapolis Aquatennial parades.

As a young man he served in the US Marine Corps stationed in Twentynine Palms, California, Adak Island in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska, and various other locations. While stationed on Adak he was part of a team that relocated caribou to the island for repopulation. His love for Alaska, its beauty, hunting, and fishing remained with him for life.

Upon discharge from the Marine Corps he worked as a lithographer for Weston Engraving in Minneapolis from 1963-1984. He married Karen Schon in 1962. Roger and Karen have two children, Joelle and Jeff. They built a cabin on Long Lake In the mid 1960's. He made Longville his permanent home in 1984 where he worked for the city of Longville at the Docksider until retiring in 2002. He was also a member of the Longville Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years.

Roger married Karen Rydberg in 2004. Roger and Karen spent their summers in Longville and winters in Mission, Texas where they were able to golf year-round. Mission was a special place for them where they made many friends.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Ruby Swan.

He's survived by wife Karen, children Joelle (Chad), Jeff (Gretchen) and grandchildren, Abby, Ethan, Garrett and Elena.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
