10/30/2018 9:16:00 AM Nancy Green d. Oct. 27, 2018
Nancy Green, age 85, passed away peacefully on October 27th, 2018 surrounded by family at her home on Big Sand Lake in Remer, MN.
Nancy was born in Minneapolis where she attended school and graduated from Patrick Henry in North Minneapolis. She and Skee, her husband of 53 years, raised their family in Forest Lake, MN, and later retired to Skee's hometown of Remer and settled on Big Sand Lake. Nancy was outgoing and energetic. Prior to moving to Remer, she became Minnesota's 2nd ever female bartender at the White Bear Bowl & Holiday House where she worked for over 20 years, honing her joke telling ability and social skills, both of which she brought with her and used at the Remer Muni as a part time bartender for the next 22 years. Much of the rest of her time was spent at the golf course where she achieved 2 holes-in-one in her life time. She and Skee loved to travel and drove their way across much of the lower forty-eight states often driving "until it was warm enough to stop and golf a round". Later in life they managed to squeeze in an Alaskan Cruise, but her favorite trip of all-the trip of a lifetime-was traveling to the Holy Land. She and Skee were involved as founding members of the Eagle Country Snowmobile Club helping to get trails established. Nancy served as township clerk of Slater Township for 32 years and also worked with the Northland Lions. Nancy loved to laugh; she claimed laughter was the best medicine. It was often said her sparkling eyes resembled those sparkling, dancing blue eyes of Santa at the Woodland Bank for many years.
Preceded in death by her husband Lloyd (Skee) Green; parents Morris & Ethyl Olson; sisters Dorothy Nordstrom, Donna Bowers, Sandra Cameron, and brother Morris Olson; grandson Caleb Green and great grandson Jack Green. Survived by her children: Debbie (Shirlie) Cooper, Darlene (Ed) Hargrove, Denise Green (Willie Huotari), Mark (Laurie) Green, David (Sue) Green, 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister Patricia (Loren) Westman; sisters-in-law Violet Green and Gail Olson, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday November 2nd with visitation one hour prior, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Remer, MN, followed by lunch served at Thunder Lake's Deer Haven. Officiating the service is Pastor Dee Hillstrom from Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Federal Dam; special music will be performed by Pastor Dale Degner and members of Bethany's men's chorus.
