Oktoberfest Celebration in Longville
By Kyndra Johnson of the Press-Citizen

It's time to get out the Lederhosen or the dirndl dresses because it is time to enjoy the festivities of Longville's annual Oktoberfest.

Begin the festivities with wine and cheese at the Oktoberfest Opening Reception from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Thursday, September 12, at the Gallery of New Creations Longville Arts Center. Then join us on Saturday, September 14, for the all-day festivies.

Open up the day with the Fall Festival at Salem Lutheran Church. Salem's Bazaar begins at 7 a.m., featuring breakfast with eggs, sausage, bacon, roll and a beverage until 10:00 a.m. Lunch, which will be served from 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. includes ribs, beans, cole slaw, bar and a beverage. Other items will be available until 3:00 p.m. such as baked goods, jams and jellies, canned goods, Farmer's Market, kitchen items, baby gifts, Christmas items, plants, books, raffle and more!

Visit Margaret Welch Memorial Library from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and browse their Book Sale. Visit downtown Longville from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. for arts, crafts and an outdoor music show.

Another Oktoberfest stop not to be missed is the Docksider parking lot where you can enjoy flavors from Germany from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Longville Lions will serve German-style food, while Grandma Bettie Jane's Pies made by Mary Etta and family will be available from the Longville Chamber of Commerce. Stop in to the Docksider and sample some German Beer and Wine during happy hour from noon to 2 p.m. In addition, German Music will be played while arts and crafts can be browsed.

Make sure to meet up at the Longville Chamber building (next to the Post Office) at 11:45 a.m. to learn all about the second annual Scavenger Rock Hunt, that will run from noon - 2 p.m. Many rocks will be placed in the Longville downtown area for prizes from area businesses!

End your day at Patricks on Girl Lake with an Oktoberfest Dinner and Dance, with dinner beginning at 5:00 p.m. Authentic German deliciousness will be served along with a full menu, salad bar and German and domestic beer. Stick around to enjoy some live music and dance the night away.
