100 Years Ago

June 23, 1922

   Jack Hammond from Backus went to Walker to see the baseball game. John F. Dreier, real estate dealer of Hackensack was also in Walker. 

   A little rain last Wednesday was a blessing to the suffering garden and field crops. Some more of that precious fluid would make us all very thankful. 

   Martin Hanson and S. Nelson drove to Walker from Hackensack Friday. Mr. Nelson is taking steps to secure his second papers and Mr. Hanson is one of his witnesses. 

 75 Years Ago

June 20, 1947

  Fire smoldering all Sunday night in the Remer Municipal Liquor Store basement caused significant damage to stock and the building.

   Vern’s Trading Post opens in Longville. It is next to the post office building. They will carry souvenirs, gifts, Indian jewelry, and fishing tackle.

   Funeral services were June 17th for Albert Howard Tusler, a pioneer of the Hackensack area since 1904, who helped with the development of the community.

50 Years Ago

June 15, 1972

   Mrs. Tom Coburn and children visited at the Larry Sherman home last week at Federal Dam. The Coborns live at Itasca State Park.

   Neil Tobiason graduated from BSU and is on his way to Glacier National Park where he will be employed at St. Mary’s Lodge.

   A bridal shower for Georgene Perkins was held at the home of Eugene Godfrey.

June 17, 1997

   Chancelor Star Ahlbom was born March 13th to Autumn and Joshua Ahlbom. Grandparents are Jerry Schneider of Remer and Ken Ahlbom of Remer.

   Bea Peterson, Remer Postmaster, retired after 24 years of service with the US Postal Service and the past 16 years in the Remer office.

   Megan Louise Laraway was born to Dean and Shirley Laraway on April 10th. Grandparents are Floyd and Janice Herschman of Iowa and Willis and Mary Laraway of Longville.
