Hidden in plain sight
To the Editor,
I note with interest the concern by local residents and township or county officials about proposed cell phone towers. I winter in Arizona and cell phone towers here, and in Florida, are disguised as palm trees. And you cannot tell the difference without very careful scrutiny. Golf courses, churches, fire stations all have them and no one notices! And no one objects to new towers. Revenue comes to the municipal golf courses and fire stations to reduce taxation, churches have a revenue stream to help them. This is win/win problem solving. In Minnesota, towers could be maple or oak or birch tree decorated. Our need for electronic communication, especially for safety related issues, is only going to increase. I would support such a tower in my residential area, and would support my township officials getting the revenue to keep my taxes down.
