Northland Board elects officers, sets meeting dates for 2018
By Kyndra Johnson of the Press-Citizen

The Jan. 8 Northland School Board's first meeting of the year had minor changes of officers with Dan Switzer remaining the Board Chair. Other officer nominations were Jenny Francis, Vice Chair; Linda Knox, Clerk and Marc Ruyak, Treasurer.

Regular meeting dates and times were scheduled for the third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m, with the October meeting the fourth Thursday (Oct. 25) due to fall break. All meetings will be held at the Northland High School, with the exception of three being held in area communities. There was discussion of holding some meetings in neighboring towns to allow the residents a more coinvent way to attend a meeting without having to travel. It was motioned to hold the March meeting in Longville, the June meeting at Crooked Lake and the September meeting in Battle Point.

Work session dates and times were scheduled for the first Thursday of every month at 6:30 pm. at Northland High School. There was some discussion on whether these work sessions were necessary. It was decided that there was a need for these so that the regular board meetings could run smoothly and were not interrupted with questions and clarification from the board members.

Committee assignments for board members were approved and are posted on the district website, www.isd118.k12.mn.us. Board expense reimbursements were approved with everything remaining the same except the mileage rates, which coincide with federal rates and a discontinuation of reimbursement for internet. Also, the board designated the Pine Cone Press-Citizen as the district's official newspaper.

The board's next regular meeting will be Thursday, Jan. 18 at 6:30 p.m. in at Northland High School in Remer.
