Four finalists selected for Northland Community Schools superintendent position
By Kyndra Johnson of the Press-CitizenDuring a special meeting of the Northland School Board held Thur., May 4, members reviewed and discussed the process for the superintendent search. Sandy Gundlach with Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA) was on hand to guide the board in choosing interview questions for the candidates and to make their recommendations on the finalists.
The Board has selected four finalists to interview for the school district's superintendent vacancy. Finalists were selected from a pool of twelve applicants based on criteria established by the Board. Finalists are:
Peter Haapala, Former Superintendent, Carlton School District, Carlton, MN
Alan Kerr, Superintendent, Douglas 51-1 School District, Box Elder, SD
John McDonald, Superintendent, Kingsland Public Schools, Spring Valley, MN
Joni Olson, Executive Director of Student Achievement, St. Cloud Area Schools, St. Cloud, MN
The Board has scheduled interviews for the finalists beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, in the FACS Room at the Northland Community Schools, with continuation on Wednesday, May 10, at 6:00 p.m., in the FACS Room. Following the final interview on Wednesday the board will then deliberate and decide on who to bring back for second interviews.
All interviews are open to the public and the public will be allowed to fill out comment sheets to voice their opinion.
Next meetings are as follows: second round interviews will be held May 16 at 6:00 p.m. at Northland High School and the next regular meeting will be Thursday, May 18 at 6:30 p.m. at Crooked Lake Township Hall in Outing.
