Annual run, walk, ride event coming up Saturday
Longville's Run Around Woman
Saturday will be a great day to run, walk, ride, and enjoy the outdoors in and around Longville, for the 20th Annual Run Around Woman 30k race, 5-mile walk/run, and the Ride Around Woman family-friendly bicycle event. Registration for the race and ride events begins at 7:30 a.m., Saturday, at Patrick's.
Ride Around Woman
Ride Around Woman will start at 8:45 a.m., on Hwy. 84, on the south edge of Longville, near St. Edwards Catholic Church.
After registration at Patrick's, riders will meet in the rear parking lot of St. Edwards Catholic Church. Bikers should plan on being ready for final pre-ride instructions at 8:30.
The ride will take participants down State Hwy. 84, on to Co. Rd. 11, then on to Co. Rd. 5, taking them back into Longville.
Trucks will be available to transport disabled bikes and/or riders back to Longville.
Run Around Woman
The 30k Run Around Woman race begins at 9 a.m., on Hwy. 84, on the south edge of Longville, near St. Edwards Catholic Church.
The 5-mile run/walk will start at 9:15 a.m., in front of the Chamber Information Booth, heads west on Co. Rd. 5 for 2.5 miles then returns to town.
Run Around Woman 30k and 5-mile awards ceremony will be held at approximately 1 p.m., at Patrick's, with prizes presented to the fastest runners in each of the three events, plus the first, second and third place winners in each division.
In the 30k and 5-Mile Run, there are 12 age categories for both men and women, and seven age groups each for men and women in the 5-Mile Walk.
Motorists should be aware, State Hwy. 84 will be closed from approximately 8:30 until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, to allow the 30k runners to pass by the Mule Lake Store and head west on Co. Rd. 11. Traffic will be rerouted to Co. Rd. 54 and 47 during this closure time.
Motorists should anticipate shared roadways with racers and riders throughout the morning, and should proceed past runners, walkers, and riders using extreme caution. The public boat launch in Downtown Longville will close at 8 a.m., and reopen around 1:30 p.m.
Aid stations are manned every 2 to 3 miles around the course with water and help.
First Responders will also be available in case of injury or medical emergencies.
