Wildflower enthusiasts are invited to the Chippewa National Forest annual May Day hike around Stony Point Campground on Leech Lake, near Walker. This spring wildflower hike is scheduled for May 1 from 10 a.m. to noon. Stony Point is known for early spring wildflowers and spring birding.
May Day hikers will meet at the boat landing parking area next to the Stony Point Campground. Forest Service staff will have field guides and binoculars available and visitors are encouraged to bring their cameras. North winds are common off the big lake, so bring warm gear for the one mile hike.
In case of bad weather, the event will be rescheduled for May 2 at 10 a.m. Stony Point Campground is located 13 miles northeast of Walker off Highway 200. Turn onto County 13 and follow signs for the national forest campground. For more information, call the Walker Ranger District at 218-547-1044.
