Agate & Mineral Show to be Held in Brainerd
The Cuyuna Rock, Gem and Mineral Society will be hosting the 15th Annual Agate & Mineral Show on Saturday, May 6 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Sunday, May 7 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Crow Wing County Fairgrounds, 2000 SE 13th Street, Brainerd. This year the Midwest Federation of Mineralogical and Geological Societies 77th annual convention will be held in conjunction with the show. Delegates from 11 states will be in attendance.
In addition to agates and minerals from around the world, there will be a variety of offerings such as artisan crafted jewelry, polished specimens, semi-precious gems, fossils, petrified wood, hand-crafted decorator pieces, and gifts by more than 50 top vendors. Special displays and demonstrations will be ongoing throughout the show. Watch rock saws in action cutting geodes offered for sale by the Cuyna club. Select a geode and wait while it is cut to reveal a surprise. There will be special activities for kids, a spinning wheel of rock fortune, silent auctions and the Wizard of Rocks to answer your "rocky" questions.
A big tailgating section outdoors will feture more vendors offering a wide variety of items plus, lots of buying, selling and trading our state gemstone, the Lake Superior Agate.
There will also be some great concessions, so no need to leave the event to find a snack, beverage or meal.
Bring the family and learn about how to identify agates, cut and polish your finds, and the equipment used to turn rocks into gems. Everyone gets one free entry for the Door Prize with drawings every 20 minutes throughout the event.
Free polished agate to the first 1000 people through the door on Sunday! If you are a rockhound you won't want to miss this show!
